Brad Curtis captured his first WMRA feature of the season on the fast third mile South Sound Speedway oval.  Curtis, driving the Joan Curtis, Composit Laminate Specialties, Reliance Manufacturing, Beast/Mopar took the lead on lap five from Mike Gardner, in route to a fifteen car length victory over Brian Olson in the Ford Powertrain Applications Ellis/Ford.  Rick Moss finished third another half car length back in the Zakula-Beal Beast/Pink Ford.

Under threatening skies, Spence Gatrell and Rick Kraft led the field to the green in the scheduled thirty-five lap feature.  Kraft held a slight advantage through turn one, but Gatrell had a little better traction and was able to pull even exiting turn two before taking the lead entering turn three.  After the initial lap, the running order was Gatrell, Kraft, Gardner, Bob Eldridge and Curtis, followed by Ben Petter, Olson, Moss, Ken Ferris and Nick Seidelman.  Curtis made an inside pass of Eldridge on lap two to move into fourth with Petter also able to get past Eldridge.  Gardner was able to get under Kraft entering turn three on lap three to move into second as Gatrell had moved to a ten car length advantage.  Curtis and Petter were also able to get under Kraft on lap four, as the low line was again the preferred line.  As Gatrell was exiting turn four on lap five, he lost traction and spun to the inside of the track bringing out the first caution of the night.  The running order for the restart was Gardner, Curtis, Petter, Kraft and Olson.  As the field exited turn four on the restart, Curtis moved to the inside of Gardner but Petter got loose and spun in front of the field.  With the middle of the track blocked, the tightly bunched field took evasive action with Eric Young and Kevin Wood hitting the spinning Petter, severely damaging all three cars.  The real loser was Ken Muth as he rode over the wheel of Wood and got upside down, sliding on his cage past the start finish line, bringing out the red flag.  Alan Norton was also involved but had no damage.  None of the drivers were injured.  The restart order was Gardner, Curtis, Kraft, Olson and Eldridge.  On the restart, Gardner slid a little high exiting turn four allowing Curtis a chance to take the lead but Kraft spun exiting turn four negating the pass.  This time, no other cars were involved.  On the third try to restart the race, Gardner again slid a little high exiting turn four allowing Curtis to take the lead entering turn one.  Moss was able to get under Eldridge in turns one and two to move into fourth.  Curtis appeared to be the fastest car on the track and was pulling away from Gardner who had his hands full with Olson.  The yellow waved again on lap seven when Eldridge lost his brakes entering turn one and backed into the wall hard, ending his night.    At the same time, Skeeter Flake spun exiting turn two and came to a stop on the back straight.  The restart running order was Curtis, Gardner, Olson, Moss and Ferris, followed by Seidelman, Rob Lindsey, Gatrell, Breanna Lopez, Kraft and Alan Norton.  On the restart, Curtis pulled to a quick five car length advantage over Gardner with Olson trying to get under Gardner.  Gatrell was trying to make up for his early spin and was able to get past both Lindsey and Seidelman before the yellow waved again when Lopez was tapped by another car and spun on lap nine.  As the green waved, Curtis pulled away from Gardner who had developed a loose condition.  On lap thirteen, Gardner slid high allowing Olson, Moss and Ferris to get by as a light mist began to fall.  By then, Curtis had a sizeable advantage as Olson and Moss were waging a terrific duel for second.  As Kraft entered turn three on lap thirteen, his motor self destructed, ending his night and season.  Kraft was able to pull his disable Fontana to the infield, allowing the race to continue.  On lap fourteen, Gatrell moved past Gardner and into the top five.  Curtis was still pulling away from Olson and Moss with Ferris and Gatrell fighting for fourth.  On lap eighteen, Gatrell was able to get under Ferris who had lost his power steering earlier in the race.  On the same lap, Lindsey was able to get under Gardner for sixth.  On lap twenty, as the time allotment for the race had ended and the mist began to increase, the white flag was displayed with Curtis holding a commanding lead.  At the checkered, Curtis held a fifteen car length advantage over Olson with Moss’ try for second falling a half car length short.  Gatrell had made a great comeback from his early spin to take fourth with Ferris, Lindsey, Gardner, Seidelman and Flake the only cars on the lead lap.  Lopez and Norton the only others running at the finish, took the checkered a lap down.

Due to weather concerns, trophy dashes were cancelled.  The first heat was captured by Lindsey over Gatrell and Muth.  Lindsey started sixth and took only four taps to take the top spot from Muth.  In the fast heat, Kraft led from the start over Curtis and Gardner.  For the third race in a row and fourth in the last five, Ferris set quick time with a clocking of 13.503.  In the run for the championship, Moss increased his advantage over Ferris to fifty-two points with the final race of the season, next Saturday night at Wenatchee Valley Raceway.
