Continues Winning Way Washington Midget Racing Association South Sound Speedway, Tenino, Washington, by John Hunter Rick Moss captured his third straight feature of the season as he totally dominated the field in the 35 lap main event. Moss had the Kenworthy Motorsports, Sandblasters Inc., Powder Coaters Inc., Ad-Fab, Beast-Gaerte running to perfection as he lapped fifth and sixth finishers on the final lap and took the checkered in capturing his 76th career feature. Darren Linder, driving the Linder Racing, Don Wilson Photos, Crews Racing TCR-Fontana was able to hold off Moss until lap eight but finished a full straight behind the seven-time champion. Brad Curtis in the Sage Induction, Promaxx Performance Beast-Gaerte finished a close third. By virtue of his fourth place finish, Ken Ferris captured his first WMRA championship, in his twentieth season, with one race remaining on the schedule. Pete Bittrolf and Nick Seidelman led the field to the green with N. Seidelman able to take the advantage entering turn one. Linder and Moss were able to get around Bittrolf down the back straight as the inside rows were bottle up behind Bittrolf. As the field exited the fourth turn on the opening lap, Rick Kraft was also able to get around Bittrolf for fourth. N. Seidelman was using the high groove and Linder the low with Moss not sure which one to follow. On lap four, Linder was able to get his nose in front of Seidelman and assume the lead down the back straight. Moss followed Linder through turns three and four and took the second position. In the middle of the pack, the racing was two wide behind Bittrolf. On lap five, Curtis got the opening he was looking for to get around both Bittrolf and Ferris exiting turn two to take fifth. Linder and Moss were racing nose to tail and pulling away from N. Seidelman who had his hands full with Kraft. Up front, Linder was trying to stay low through the corners and power out quicker than Moss. This worked until lap eight when Linder slid a little high in turn three allowing Moss to gain the advantage. The running order after eight was Moss, Linder, N. Seidelman, Kraft and Curtis. On lap ten, Curtis used the high line in taking fourth from Kraft and one lap later got under Seidelman for third entering turn three. By now, Moss and Linder had nearly a straight lead over Curtis but were entering lapped traffic. Cam McLean and Duane Westby were the first to be lapped as Moss threaded his way through the slower cars without missing a beat. On lap fourteen, Kraft assumed fourth from Seidelman with Ferris taking fifth two laps later. By now Moss was stretching his lead over Linder with Curtis another half straight behind. Ferris, Kraft, Seidelman and Mike Gardner were putting on a terrific duel for fourth. On lap eighteen, Gardner was able to put Seidelman back to seventh as Moss threaded his way through the slower cars of Tony Seidelman, Rob Lindsey and Bittrolf, who were racing side by side. The following lap, Bobby Bird found himself a lap down to the dominant Moss. On lap twenty-three, Doug Kammerzell, substituting for Carl Peter after his normal ride encountered engine problems, was black flagged when smoke became visible on his headers. Lap twenty-eight saw Westby exit the race. As Moss continued to pull away from Linder, Curtis was slowly reeling in Linder but his only hope for a victory would be a yellow. The race for fourth between Kraft, Ferris and Gardner finally saw Ferris get by Kraft on lap thirty. At the same time, front row starter N. Seidelman was getting lapped. Moss took the white flag with Gardner and Kraft, who were racing for fifth, directly in front of the leader. Moss got around Gardner in turn one and went under Kraft entering turn three. Gardner followed Moss and was able to beat Kraft to the line by two feet for fifth place. Linder took the checkered nearly five seconds behind Moss with Curtis right on his tail in the all green feature. Not even lapped traffic seemed to slow the seven time champion as he extended his WMRA career victory total to seventy-six. Curtis set his second quick time of the season with a clocking of 14.003 on the third-mile oval. Lindsey led wire to wire in taking the B Dash over Bird while Linder held off Moss in taking the A Dash. The first heat saw T. Seidelman lead wire to wire in taking the checkered ahead of Garner and Lindsey. In the fast heat, Linder held off Moss and Ferris for the win. Curtis and Bittrolf tangled exiting turn three on lap two of the second heat for the only caution of the evening. Jeff Bird encountered engine problems after qualifications while the former Reelie VW, driven by Kammerzel, had ignition woes during hot laps.
