Wilskey and Bauer join WMRA for 2002
Washington Midget Racing Association
Seattle, Washington, February 27, 2002, by Ken Ferris

The Washington Midget Racing Association is well known for developing  talented racers.  In 2002, two drivers who have already made names for themselves will be joining the already tough competition in the WMRA.

Shawna Wilskey is best known for her dirt track sprint car exploits.  In 1989 she won three separate Mini Sprint championships before beginning her illustrious sprint car career in 1990.  She has produced multiple wins in the western US and Canada.  She was runner up twice in the Northern Sprint Tour and was three time Northern Sprint Tour champion.  “The sprints have been lots of fun and they’ve been very good to me but I have always liked the midgets and I am looking forward to running them this year.” stated Shawna.    Shawna will be driving for Kenworthy Motorsports LLC, which purchased the Beast/Gaerte driven in 2001 by Rick Moss.  Look for her in the red #58 throughout the season.

A former Copper World winner in the Super Modified division, Randy Bauer has driven just about every kind of pavement open wheel car on the West Coast. Randy Bauer is not new to midget racing, having run with the WMRA quite a bit in the past.  Bauer ran USAC sprints in 2001.  For 2002 Randy will be driving the Beast/Buick V6 for owner Robert Morris of Tacoma. “I’ve run the midgets before and they are a real challenge.  I am looking forward to a good season with Bob in 2002.”  Randy will be piloting the red #11 throughout the season.

The competition will be tough for Bauer and Wilskey.  John Starks, from Edgewood, WA.,  WMRA champion for four years running will be back in his brothers Blue Dot chassis.  2002 runner up Rick Kraft, Beaver Creek, Oregon, and third place finisher Brad Curtis, from Edmonds, WA will both be back looking for their first WMRA championship.  Last year the championship came down to the final race of the season with Starks beating Kraft by a mere four points for the closest finish in the WMRA in over ten years.

Darren Linder of Tacoma Washington will be back for the season.  Linder won the last two races in 2001, in his sophomore year with the midgets.  In addition Kenny Ferris, Glen Guiles, Nick Seidelman and Jeff Bird are all expected to go after the prestigious WMRA crown in 2002.
