Moss Wins Again!
Washington Midget Racing Association
Monroe, Washington, September 2, 2001, by Ed Williams

Rick Moss drove Bryan Gregg's Main Street Motors/Cascade Motors Beast/Gaerte to his second WMRA win of the season Saturday night on the 3/8 mile oval at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe (WA). Darren Linder finished second in the 35 lap event driving his family owned TCR Viper/Fontana with fast timer Brad Curtis third in the Curtis Family Sage Induction/Promaxx Performance Beast/Gaerte. The event was part of the Evergreen State Fair and drew a field of 21 cars, largest WMRA field of the season thus far. Special thanks to San Jose, CA's Thomas Meseraull and Stuart Birkinbine from Meridian, ID for their long tows to make the show.

Pole sitter Rory Price grabbed the lead at the start with Nick Seidelman holding second followed by Rick Kraft, Linder and Meseraull at the end of the first lap. Price built a solid lead over the first five laps with Linder taking second on lap six and one lap later Ken Ferris moved into third past Seidelman. Moss worked from his 8th starting spot into fourth on lap 9 and two laps later the yellow flew for the first time with Meseraull parked on the front straight with electrical problems.

Price held the lead at the start with Linder, Ferris and Moss completing a four-car breakaway at the front. Mike Gardner moved into fifth and joined the lead pack shortly before the yellow came out again when Mel Kemper spun in turn one on lap 16.

Moss grabbed third on the restart behind Price and Linder and the top three pulled away with Linder challenging Price on the high side and Moss hugging the bottom of the track. Price fought off the double challenge until lap 25 when Moss got past for the lead. Ferris held fourth throughout the mid-portion of the event with Curtis moving past Gardner into the top five on lap 21.

Once in front, Moss controlled the last 10 laps as he moved through lapped traffic with seemingly effortless precision. Linder held off a late race challenge by Curtis to finish second. Price held on to fourth with fast closing John Starks edging Ferris for fifth. Kraft, Glen Guiles, Birkinbine and N. Seidelman rounded out the top ten.

In preliminary action, Curtis's Fast time was 16.921; Moss won both the A Dash over Guiles and the 3rd Heat from Curtis and Meseraull; Jeff Bird took the B Dash over Arnie Starks; Bobby Bird bested Birkinbine and A Starks in heat 1; and Gardner was victorious in heat 2 over Kemper and Linder.
